About

The unique style of our pizza (South Shore bar pizza) originates in the bars of the South Shore of Massachusetts. Back in the 1940’s Cape Cod Café in Brockton, MA, came up with the original recipe and they continue to serve it to this day. Legend has it that the recipe was shared with other local bars and today there are a few dozen bars and restaurants in and around the South Shore of MA that offer a very similar style. Debate rages about which pub or “cafe” serves the best version of this pizza. I’ve tried several and can assure you that they’re all mouth wateringly delicious.

While I grew up in the South Shore area, my wife grew up in Brazil. Our paths crossed in RI in May 2015 and we never looked back. Over the past few years, we’ve eaten a lot of amazing food, including some great and some not-so-great pizza, from authentic New York thin crust in the heart of NYC, to some of the most renowned pizzerias in Sao Paulo, Brazil (the pizza hub of Brazil with more pizzerias than NYC), to some pretty terrible chain pizzas that we probably could have and should have done without. That being said, we both put South Shore bar pizza right up there with the very best.

Growing up in Brazil, Lais witnessed extreme poverty, and her grandmother who was very active in the church and with charitable causes in general, showed her from a young age the importance of taking care of people in need. I grew up in a lower middle-class family in a somewhat affluent suburb of Boston, and it wasn’t until I was a teen when I started to visit the city more often that I realized what serious problems homelessness and poverty were, and not far at all from home. It struck me deeply. In my studies as a psychology major in college, I learned that many homeless people in the US are veterans with PTSD and other unresolved mental health issues. Since that time, I’ve always wanted to find a way to help homeless people more, especially those suffering from mental health issues.

Our pledge is to donate one pizza for every ten that are sold to a person or family in need. Hopefully doing this one thing will put some much-needed food in people’s stomachs and help bring just a little extra brightness to their day. Won’t you join us in our mission and buy a pizza (or ten) today? We know you will love it as much as we do.

With kindness and gratitude,
